2021 Ford Bronco Sport Rally Winner 1:64
From its humble beginnings, the Renault 11 spawned a number of sports versions, followed closely by competition versions. It would only be in 1987, however, that the big cheese at Renault decided to place it in the world championship in the hands of Jean Ragnotti. Its balanced chassis, along with its pilot’s skills associated to Pierre Thimonier’s co-piloting, quickly set the world on fire. This model, bearing the number 4, was engaged in the Portugal Rallye with 37 specials. After 4 intense days of racing, the team came second.
The start of this edition of the famous rally took place on the Esplanade de la Défense in Paris. This would be the final year for the Peugeot 405 before the Lion’s brand committed itself to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 405 T16 Grand Raid was a profound evolution of the 205 of the same name. From the second stage, the Peugeot crews starting with Ari Vatanen put the rival Mitsubishi in their place. The end of the rally was marked by a triplet of Peugeots. This was the fourth victory in a row for Peugeot in Dakar. Citroën would rekindle the flame with a ZX directly inspired from this 405.
Nowadays, novel liveries for rally cars during try-outs or for the presentation of a model are too numerous to count. The proof of this statements lies with the striped livery of the Polo R WRC’17 which never saw the light of day. In the 1990s, Renault was a pioneer. During the presentation of the Renault Clio Maxi, a yellow and black “striped” livery (the manufacturer’s colours) was used. It was a far cry from the uniform grey that would dress the Clio Maxi afterwards. An original and eye-catching decor that would go down in history.
